Before reaching out to the academy, please check this FAQ. If you don’t find the answer you need, don’t hesitate to contact us!
Do you offer drop in classes?
We offer drop ins to visiting students who train consistently at other academies. Day passes are $30.
For both safety and skill development related reasons, we do not offer drop ins for people who do not currently train.
Do I have to wear the academy uniform?
No, students at Queens Jiu Jitsu can wear any appropriate gi or no-gi gear. However, good quality gis, rashguards, shorts, and leggings are for available for sale at the academy.
If I have a membership, how many classes can I participate in per month?
Queens Jiu Jitsu offers exclusively unlimited memberships – you can attend as many classes as you like.
What is Gi or No-Gi?
The gi is the traditional uniform used to train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. No-gi classes are held wearing basic athletic gear like rashguards and grappling shorts. White belts can attend either class, however we require white belt students to train in the Gi because the friction of the uniform makes for a slower game that is easier to understand. Blue belts & up are free to specialize.
Are Gis available for rent?
Yes, we have Gis in most sizes available for rent. Rental Gis are $10. As renting a Gi is not a permanent solution to uniform requirements, rentals are only offered to those who already own a uniform. Rental Gis are, however, given free of charge for trial class students.
Do you offer private lessons?
We offer private lessons at our Astoria location from each one of our coaches in both Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Wrestling. Use our Getting Started or Contact pages to request more information.
If I have a membership and travel, do I still get charged?
Our memberships allow several months a year to suspend your account. Just fill out our online suspension form with a few days notice.
Does Queens Jiu Jitsu have showers?
Yes, we provide shower facilities. Students must provide their own towel and soap.
Do you offer trial classes?
We offer trial classes free of charge for anyone interested in seeing if Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is for them. Trials are by appointment only, get started here.
